Oral Sensory Motor Therapy
Oral motor issues are real challenges that need to be addressed in many children. They can be present from birth which display in difficulty in latching to the breast. These challenges can be addressed at this very early time to promote effective development as nursing is very advantageous in developing correct oral motor patterns, strength, endurance, and necessary for advancing in levels of difficulty required for appropriate development. Oral sensory motor development issues can negatively impact feeding and speech issues. Not all speech issues require work in this area but many do. We believe each child in an individual not a label. We assess the whole child and each system to find the best approach for creation of progress in the most effective, efficient, and progressive manner possible.
At S.M.I.LE.S., we can help your child from birth to be an effective breast feeder, help with feeding issues and dysphagia, and sensory challenges with brushing teeth & face washing, textures, drooling, mouthing, pill swallowing, etc. Please contact us if you have questions regarding your infant or child's development in this area.
